Scope and Content Abstract:The collection documents groundbreaking ceremonies, facility dedications, inaugurations, celebrations and memorials held from 1948 to 1995. There are records for over 40 major events and a folder that contains programs for 18 memorials held in honor of faculty and students between 1981-1993. Of special interest are the 50th Anniversary celebration to commemorate the admittance of women into Northeastern and the 75th Anniversary celebration of Northeastern's Cooperative Education program.
Historical Abstract:During the 1960s and early 1970s, the Office of the President was responsible for coordinating and overseeing all building dedications and major events. In the mid 1970s, this responsibility was transferred to the Office of University Functions, renamed the Office of Special Events when President Kenneth G. Ryder began his administration. During the 1990s, the Office of Special Events was renamed the Office of Conference and Event Planning.
