Scope and Content Note

The collection comprises 18.3 cubic feet of scrapbooks, which include postcards, newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs and memorabilia, and publications, speeches, and correspondence.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject and consists mainly of the following topics: Architecture (Boxes 1-5), Art (Boxes 5-10), Countries (Boxes 10-15), and Charles Moore, 1855-1942 (Box 17).

Of special interest are materials documenting Osborne's journeys to Asia in the 1930s, particularly her visits to China (Boxes 10-11) and Japan (Box 12). These materials include correspondence, photographs, passenger lists, menus, receipts, newspaper and magazine clippings, and postcards. Also of interest is correspondence (Box 10), arranged chronologically, which includes letters relating to foreign travel, missionary work, and education.

Included in the collection are materials by and relating to Charles Moore (1855-1942) (see Moore, Charles, Box 10). Moore was a member of the National Commission of Fine Arts from its inception in 1910 and was chairman of the Commission from 1915 to 1937. He was also Acting Chief of the Division of Manuscripts of the Library of Congress (1918-1927) and the author of several books (see attached entry from Who Was Who in America, Vol. II, 1943-1950). The Moore materials include writings and speeches (both in manuscript and published form), correspondence, items relating to Moore's position on the Board of Overseers of Harvard University (see Moore, Charles: Harvard University), and information relating to his work on the Commission of Fine Arts.
