Scope and Content Abstract:This collection reflects the Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth, Inc's (BAGLY, Inc.) administrative, social, educational, and community activities from its inception in 1980 to 2001, including programs for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) youth, community outreach, involvement with other GLBT groups throughout Massachusetts and the country, and participation in local and national conferences and other events. The collection comprises meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters, reports, bylaws, financial information, informational brochures, events fliers, surveys and evaluations, financial information, bylaws and mission statements, event planning materials, brochures, conference packets, advertisements, and background information.
Historical Abstract:The Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth, Inc. known as BAGLY, Inc., was founded in 1980 as the first youth-run organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth in Boston. Headed by Executive Director Grace Sterling Stowell, BAGLY is a youth-led, adult-advised social support organization that creates, sustains and advocates for programs, policies and services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth aged 22 and under.
Arrangement:Organized into four series: 1. Administration, 2. Groups and Programs, divided into three sections: a. Massachusetts, b. National, and c. Other States, 3. Conferences and Events, 4. Subject files, divided into AIDS/HIV, Transgender, and Youth.
