Born in Ilion, New York, in 1938, F. Andre Favat (FAF) earned his A.B. from the State University of New York at Albany in 1959 and received his master's and doctoral degrees in Education from Harvard University. In 1969 he joined Northeastern as assistant professor of English education in the Department of instruction. He became an associate professor in 1972. As a member of Northeastern University's faculty, FAF was the chair of the Undergraduate and Curriculum Committee and the coordinator of faculty development.
FAF belonged to the American Association of University Professors Modern Language Association, the International Reading Association, Phi Delta Kappa, and the Alumni Association of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He was also actively involved with the Massachusetts, New England and National Councils of Teachers of English. He chaired the Committee on Research and served on the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Council of Teachers of English. As a member of the New England Council of Teachers of English, FAF chaired the Curriculum committee and served on both the School and College Committee, and the Advisory Committee. In addition, FAF held the positions of director of the National Council of Teachers of English and president of the Massachusetts Council of Teachers of English at the time of his death.
F. Andre Favat was murdered in 1976 at the age of 38. In 1979 the F. Andre Favat Learning Resources Center and Library of Children's Literature was established in his memory at Northeastern University. |
