Name of Creator:Michael Aronson
Title:Michael Aronson Papers
Date: 1982-1988
Reference Code:M206
Location Code:37/3, FF4/D4
Extent:1.65 cubic ft. ( 1 half manuscript box, 1 manuscript box, 1 record box, and 1 half Flat Folder)
Scope and Content Abstract: The majority of this collection is speeches delivered by Michael S. Dukakis during his campaign for the presidency, particularly covering the years 1987-;1988. Many of these speeches can also be found in the Michael S. Dukakis Presidential collection (M32), box 24. The speeches in M32 are usually a transcript of the speech as it was presented; however, in this collection the documents are largely drafts with Michael Dukakis' and other speech team members' edits and comments. These speeches are numbered 1-210, but not all of the folders actually contain speeches or drafts so only certain speech numbers are actually included in the collection. A number of final drafts of speeches (Speech numbers: 2-17, 187-192, and 194-197) in this collection were added to the Michael S. Dukakis Presidential collection (M32) to fill gaps. Occasionally, actual handwritten full page notes or edits are included with the drafts. The dates on the drafts folders correlate to the date the speech was given, not the date the draft was written. In addition to these drafts, the collection also contains a speech book with Dukakis' speeches from May 1982-;July 1987, an itinerary of Dukakis' schedule from October 23, 1988 to October 28, 1988, and a eulogy Dukakis gave for Willie Velasquez in 1988. There are also a few drafts of press releases and responses to letters or questions in different folders. The general speech folders contain notes and speech drafts from unspecified events. Along with these documents are a number of campaign posters for Dukakis. A particularly interesting poster is one made completely from recycled materials that were collected during the Democratic Convention in Atlanta. The poster was sent out to certain supporters of the convention.
