Scope and Content Note:The Boston Women's Music Collective records document the development of feminist and women's music in Boston in the 1970s. The collection includes Boston Women's Music Collective newsletters, correspondence, flyers of Collective-sponsored events and other women's musical events, material on organizing music workshops for women, resources for women musicians and performers seeking agents and venues, and an interview with Holly Near and Meg Christian in 1976.
Historical Note:The Boston Women's Music Collective was founded in June 1975 in Somerville, Massachusetts. Its purpose was to support women's music and women composers, musicians, and performers. The Boston Women's Music Collective published a monthly newsletter and sponsored events featuring a variety of musical genres for women with different interests, lifestyles, and talents.
