Volume:0.15 cubic ft. (1 box)
Scope and Content Note:The collection documents Clyde F. Joslyn's college experiences and provides insight into student life at Northeastern University in the late 1930s. Academic materials include a transcript; letters from Harold W. Melvin, the Dean of Students, and the Sigma Society; and programs from the Dean's List banquets. Extracurricular materials include a picture of the Musical Club, ca. 1938; programs for student performances and an Northeastern University football game; Field Day tickets; and a felt insignia from the Musical Club. Social materials include a Junior Prom program signed by Art Shaw, dance tickets, and photographs of students at the Junior Prom and a costume ball. The collection includes material relating to Phi Beta Alpha, both from Joslyn's time as an undergraduate brother and from his time on the board, and comprises letters, newsletters, bylaws, directories, certificates, and a fraternity pin. More general Northeastern University material includes press clippings and programs related to commencements, baccalaureates, and the building of the new campus on Huntington Avenue. Also included is a photograph of the Class of 1939 and their wives at their 30th reunion in 1969, posing with President Asa S. Knowles.
Historical Note: Clyde Frederic Joslyn attended Northeastern University as an accounting major, graduating in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science from the College of Business Administration. While a student at Northeastern, Joslyn was a member of many student organizations and a leader in several: a feature editor for the Northeastern News, the president of Phi Beta Alpha fraternity, a trumpet player in the band and Musical Club, and a member of the Junior Prom Committee, the International Relations Club, the Cauldron staff, and the Sigma Society, which is the honor society of the College of Business Administration.
