| Scope and Content Note: | The Edward L. Bernays (ELB) papers cover the period 1982-1998 and consist of photographs, personal and professional papers, newspaper clippings, and correspondence. The documents were collected by Herbert Patchell, a Northeastern instructor. Patchell met ELB in 1982 and maintained a friendship with him until his death in 1995. The bulk of these materials document ELB's involvement in the failed pursuit of legislation in Massachusetts in 1992 to require licensing of public relations personnel. There are also correspondence between ELB and Patchell, newspaper clippings regarding ELB's career in public relations, and the court battle between ELB and his daughters over control of his finances. Photographs of ELB and friends at his home in Cambridge are included. | ||||||||
