Camp YMCA Exhibit Features NU Photos

The West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is currently showing the exhibition "Camp YMCA: A Photograhic Profile."

North Woods Camp, 1936

The exhibition, curated by John A. Quatrale, consists of archival photographs, artifacts and ephemora from the archives of the West Surburban YMCA, NU Archives and the Kautz Family YMCA Archives at the University of Minnesota.

Cabin, 1935

The exhibition traces the history of YMCA summer youth camps from 1885 to the present, with special emphasis on Camp Frank A. Day and Camp Chickami, both owned by the West Suburban YMCA. YMCAs are the longest continuous camp operators of any organization in the United States.

The exhibition is located at the West Suburban YMCA at 276 Church Street, Newton, MA 02458 (tel: 617-244-6050) and runs through May 20, 2006.
