Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is a campaign designed to bring attention to the importance of early education.  By encouraging hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day, Jumpstart aims to break a world record and to make early education a national priority. Here's how YOU can get involved:

  • Buy your own special edition copy of Corduroy at http://www.readfortherecord.org/books.
  • Spread the word about Jumpstart’s Read for the Record and get your friends and family involved.
  • Read Corduroy with a child in your life on October 2, 2008.
  • Participate in an event near you (check out the Event Finder to find local events - available in July)
  • Create and host your own event (check out the Build an Event Kit to see what you need to do to have your event count towards the record)
  • Visit http://www.readfortherecord.org to learn more about the campaign and find out what else you can do to get books into the hands of the children we work with!
Connect Early with JUMPSTART!

Jumpstart is a national non-profit organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Based on years of research and practice, the Jumpstart model pairs Jumpstart-trained college students with low-income preschool children in one-to-one partnerships that are uniquely designed to develop literacy, language, and social skills. The Jumpstart Corps member position is open to students who are able to serve 10-15 hours per week for a total of 300 hours during the school year. Responsibilities include participating in Jumpstart sessions two afternoons a week with partner child(ren) and team, participating in team planning meetings, and serving four to six hours each week in a preschool classroom.
